President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received today the Prime Minister of Iraq, Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani. The Iraqi Prime Minister heads a high-level government delegation consisting of two Prime Minister’s deputies, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Planning, Housing, Trade and Electricity, in addition to the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq. The Iraqi delegation is in Egypt to participate in the Joint Egyptian-Iraqi Higher Committee. Premier Dr. Moustafa Madbouly, and a number of Egyptian ministers and senior officials also attended the meeting with the president.

Presidency spokesman Counsel Ahmad Fahmy said the president reiterated Egypt’s firm and unequivocal position in support of Iraq’s security and stability. The President emphasized his appreciation for the deep and solid strategic relations between the two countries and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening and diversifying the frameworks of bilateral cooperation in the various political, economic, trade and cultural fields, both bilaterally and in the context of the Trilateral Cooperation Mechanism with Jordan.

The Iraqi Prime Minister praised the solid and historic brotherly ties the two countries share, and stressed Iraq’s willingness to strengthen established mechanisms of bilateral cooperation and build on the results of his last visit to Egypt last March. He claimed that the pace of exchanges of visits between the two sides showed a commitment to advance bilateral relations towards broader prospects in the coming period and to make better use of Egypt’s capabilities and competencies in various fields. This comes in light of Egypt’s prominent role in strengthening concerted Arab action in the face of the region’s current crises and challenges; a role regarded as a model to be followed in maintaining stability and improving development, economic and social conditions.

The meeting explored ways to further develop bilateral cooperation frameworks in a range of areas, notably economic cooperation, trade, investment and improving infrastructure.

The two sides also exchanged views on Arab and regional issues of mutual interest, in light of the central role of the two countries in the region. They emphasized a willingness to promote joint Arab action to contribute to addressing the many challenges facing the Arab nation at the present stage, to realize the aspirations of the peoples of the region to live in peace and stability .
