It is a group that claimed social assistance from Governor Jorge Capitanich. The police intervened. Due to the riots, three people were arrested and the animals kidnapped.

It was not a regular protest. At the door of the Chaco Government House there were incidents, when a group that was demonstrating in demand for social assistance tried to enter the building with horses. That generated riots with the police that ended with three people arrested and the animals kidnapped.

According to a statement from the Chaco Police, the protesters showed up this Wednesday morning at the headquarters where Governor Jorge Capitanich has an office “untimely with horses” and on the sidewalk. Faced with the unheeded order from the police authorities to withdraw from the place and vacate the front of the governorate where they were with the horses, the security operation intervened and the protest riders resisted.

One of the detainees, named Estefanía Medina, who belongs to the La Granja Medina Franchesca Foundation, spoke to the Diario Tag site after being released.

“We are asking for assistance for people who are under water, I have people with creatures who have been under water for two days and two nights, with a wet mattress, with wet blankets,” he began about the reason for the claim.

Along these lines, he affirmed that he “fights” so that his people “have their things” and added that he tried to communicate with the Ministry of Social Development: “I wrote to everything related to Social Development, they told me that they would help me, that I was going to lower things, until today, nothing”.

Regarding the lack of responses, according to her, she affirmed that “they cause one to come and clash with the Government,” she said, to justify the protest ride.

Regarding the reported arrests, she stated that she was one of the detainees along with her husband, Francisco Pedro Medina, who was riding a horse, and a minor. “They beat him and arrested him inside the plaza,” she said.

The conflicts between the foundation and the farm that motorized the protest on horseback

The conflict with the Fundación Granja Medina Franchesca has been going on for a few years, when Medina, the same referent, denounced that in 2018 the provincial government tried to take away the land where she has a farm that, in addition to horses, has cows, sheep and pigs.

That in an attempt to negotiate from the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development they told him that he had to relocate his animals or directly, according to Medina’s words, kill his cattle. Since then there has been a dispute with the Chaco government that added to the reasons that led the organization to march on horseback to the Government House.

The woman maintains that her father-in-law bought the property from the Argentine Army some 40 years ago, but the government questions this, through the Land Bank, which tried to regularize the papers for the land on that property.

The conflict escalated last year, when the social leader denounced that an eviction attempt, in which she would have offered to return the land if her cattle were relocated, ran over two cows and cut the wires.
