Vidly TV, Pakistan’s popular application has been banned by the Indian authorities because of the release of its new web series “Sevak; The Confessions”. It is miserable and sad that a nation like India that declares to be a champion of the right to speak, free discourse and free press is prohibiting the OTT platform Vidly.TV in view of a web series that is only depicting reality behind occasions and developments which have occurred in India. It appears that the ongoing BJP government is genuinely worried about the Indian public figuring out reality.
The ground breaking content is an original action thriller web series based on true stories which occurred in India between 1984 and 2022. It is a bold portrayal of the RSS-inspired Hindutva movement in India and religion based discriminations. The theme that the series represents is a significant one on many levels, particularly in bringing issues to light against terror activities and human rights violations by extremist components in India. It features how the lust of power misleads individuals to commit hate crimes against minorities. The story is built around eight stories woven around a crime.

Indian government is of the view that “the content of the web series shows Indian brutalities against the minorities which is against the integrity of India”. The web series includes genuine accounts of Sikhs and many distributors in India have also raised attention of authorities towards the web series.

The Times of India quotes that “Utilizing the emergency powers under the IT Rules 2021, IB Ministry has issued directions for blocking of website, 2 mobile applications, 4 Social media accounts and 1 Smart TV app of Pakistan based OTT Platform Vidly TV.” The newspaper quotes that prime reason is that the “web series is detrimental to national security, integrity and sovereignty of India.”

The ministry said that “Web-series portrayed an anti-India narrative on sensitive historical events and subjects of national importance such as Operation Blue Star and its aftermath, demolition of the Babri Masjid at Ayodhya, killing of a Christian missionary named Graham Staines, Malegaon blasts, Samjhauta Express blasts and inter-state river water dispute related to Sutlej Yamuna Link canal.”

Earlier this year Human rights watch has already conveyed India that the Indian authorities should respect the right to freedom of expression and stop muzzling Independent media.

Sevak is a Pakistani Web series which has been produced by Vidly. The series is made under the ace direction of Anjum Shehzad who is renowned for his well known film Mah-e-meer.
