“Skinny, what do you want in the end?” Marcelo Marcel (51) recalls, who told the offender that he had a 9mm gun pointed at him when he was triggered, even though he had not resisted the robbery. The gun misfired that time, but unfortunately it was triggered when the thief shot his father, who saw the scene and tried to defend him.

Daniel Marcel (78) died shortly after in hospital. It was on a Friday shortly after dark and this Tuesday, with sadness permeating the tone of his voice, his son Marcelo, a well-known journalist from Mar del Plata, recounted that the assailant “was not well, he was out of his mind” and that he cannot measure “what was going through this boy’s head”.

He thus referred to the alleged murderer, Nicolás Fernández (27). Marcel has no doubt that it is the person who shot his father.

The man arrested for the crime of the father of journalist Marcelo Marcel, in Mar del Plata.

“The data I gave of this boy ended up verifying that it was him. The family (that of the assailant) has no doubts that it is about him, ”she said at a press conference that she offered in the Gabito Bannat passage, in the Las Lilas neighborhood, where the crime occurred.

The Police detained Fernández three hours after the crime. He was six blocks away trying to get into his house. His sister prohibited him from entering and he fired into the air.

Then it was compared with the images taken by the cameras of the municipal Operations and Monitoring Center, “very clear,” investigators said, and they soon learned that the detainee was the suspect in the murder of Marcel.

“These are very hard moments for which one is not prepared. It became clear to me that this boy did not know what to do, because he had me with his hands raised, he was spinning around me. The car was running backwards, with the open gate, and I never refused to give him what he asked for,” he recalled.

“There was a very short dialogue, but when he shot me and the shot didn’t come out because of the nerves he had, that caused me, not a reaction because I never reacted, but a crossover. I told him something like: ‘Flaco, What do you want in the end?’ And then he escaped,” he added.

Due to his profession, which he has carried out for three decades in the city since its beginnings in the newspapers La Capital and El Atlántico, today he hosts a radio program in the afternoons of Miter Mar del Plata, he recognized that he “always” was in front of this kind of facts.

“It happened nearby, and in this case we experienced it firsthand,” he lamented.

The afternoon that followed the crime, Marcel’s neighbors demonstrated and asked for greater security in the area. Marcel claimed that “this does not fall” so that “the claim is taken” from the neighborhood, because that area – between the Regional and Las Lilas neighborhoods – there is “a lot of conflict and insecurity.”

It remains for the investigators to find the second assailant, who got into the car to take the journalist’s wallet.

Marcel remarked that his family is satisfied with the investigation carried out by “a prosecutor (Romina Díaz, from UFI No. 6) who has a very clear profile, of non-exposure.”

In these hours they are waiting for the results of the ballistic test that will compare the projectile that was extracted from the victim’s body with the weapon seized from the alleged murderer.

The journalist also took the opportunity to recognize the work of political officials, such as Mayor Guillermo Montenegro and the Buenos Aires security minister, Sergio Berni, who once the fact was known made themselves available to him.

Marcelo closed the talk with the journalists a few meters away where his father was murdered, remembering him “as an example”.

“We want justice to be done. I am nobody, this became relevant because I am better known than him, but he was a much better person than me, a much better friend of his friends, a very helpful guy,” he said.

“The neighborhood spoke. He accompanied him at the farewell, not me. And those are the values that he left not only to me and my brother, who are already grown up, but to his four granddaughters, who have always known who was the grandfather ”, he completed.
