“Saturday Night Live” on Sunday featured a new cast member speaking directly to children about their genitals and criticizing Republican lawmakers for pushing back transgender surgeries for minors.
“If you don’t care about the lives of trans kids, it means you don’t care about the lives of the damn kids,” stand-up comedian and SNL cast member Molly Kearney said to audience applause.
“People need to wake up. We’re letting trans kids grow up too fast. We need to keep them safe and we need to cheer them up,” said the comedian, who identifies with “she/it” pronouns.

SNL introduced Kearney as the show’s “first non-binary cast member” in a tweet on Sunday.
Kearney took aim at Republicans during the skit for supporting laws that would restrict or ban transgender operations for minors altogether.
Under a recent emergency rule released Thursday by Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey, minors in the state will soon be required to undergo therapy before proceeding with transgender surgeries.
“I’ve been hanging on to my genitals for way too long and I’m starting to feel like a fucking Republican legislator,” Kearney also said, lashing out at conservative opposition to transgender surgeries on children.
“What’s happening, kids, is wrong and you don’t need to be afraid,” the comedian continued, speaking directly to children who identify as transgender. “It’s our job to protect you and it’s your job to focus on being a kid.”

As the skit came to a close, Kearney again expressed his support for transgender children, also referring to their genitals.
“There are a bunch of guys who ask you about your crotch and decide when and where you can pee. But if you just hang on, you’ll look up and realize, ‘You’re flying, boy!'”
“Trans rights!” shouted Kearney, hovering over the audience in a suit of armor.
The debate over the representation of transgender people in ads has only grown in recent weeks, as some Americans raise concerns about Bud Light’s partnership with Dylan Mulvaney, a TikTok star who identifies as transgender.
Anheuser-Busch has since responded to the backlash by making Mulvaney a Bud Light partner.

In a statement to Fox News, the company explained that it “works with hundreds of influencers from our brands as one of many ways to authentically connect with audiences across different demographics and passion points.”
