Dr. Majed bin Mohammad Al Ansari, adviser to Prime Minister and Foreign Minister and official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, affirmed the State of Qatar’s enthusiasm for a swift and immediate ceasefire in Sudan, and stressed the need for dialogue , peaceful resolution, support from regional and international efforts and all the resources necessary to expedite a ceasefire and end the crisis.
Speaking at the Foreign Ministry’s weekly press briefing, the official Foreign Ministry spokesman added that the State of Qatar supports any effort that will enable the warring parties to implement a ceasefire and return to the dialogue, be it the Arab League, the African Union, United Nations or international parties. He pointed to the ongoing Qatari communication, which is in direct contact with conflicting parties, pointing out that it is a Sudanese-Sudanese crisis and that the solution will ultimately be Sudanese and that the actions of the external parties are to provide aid and good proposing diplomatic solutions.
He discussed the efforts of the State of Qatar in that crisis, starting with the calls from HE Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani to discuss the latest developments there and the statement by the State of Qatar, in which it expressed its deep concern at developments in Khartoum and Meroe and called for an immediate end to fighting, maximum restraint, resort to the voice of reason, upholding the public interest and citizens to face the consequences save from the fighting. In addition, the State of Qatar participated in the emergency meeting of the Arab League at the level of permanent delegates to discuss the situation in Sudan.
Regarding relations between Qatar and Bahrain, Dr. Majed bin Mohammad Al Ansari that at the meeting of the Qatari-Bahrain Follow-up Commission on 12 April at the GCC headquarters in Riyadh, it was decided to restore diplomatic relations between the two countries. step that stems from the desire to strengthen the unity and integration of the Gulf and that various committees are working to pave the way for the reopening of embassies, resumption of flights between the two countries and reaching the highest possible level as soon as possible level of cooperation.
Regarding relations with the United Arab Emirates, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that positive progress has been made in all meetings of the technical committees that are well underway, with reciprocal visits being made to support the reopening of embassies as quickly as possible and that the matter is currently procedural and that embassies are expected to reopen within a few weeks.
The adviser to the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State and the official spokesman for the Foreign Office also discussed the activities of the Ministry over the past week and its efforts to bridge positions on regional and international controversial issues and its positions on various issues, including welcoming the prisoner exchange process between the Yemeni government and the Houthis, considering it a humanitarian gesture and a positive step that would pave the way for a comprehensive political solution.
