British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said on Thursday that Britain-supplied Storm Shadow cruise missiles are being used in Ukraine.
Wallace confirmed the use of the missiles at a press conference with Norwegian Defense Minister Bjorn Arild Gram, but declined to give further details.
“All I can say is that it’s been used since we announced it would be deployed to Ukraine, as far as I understand it,” he said.
He noted: “Furthermore, if you can’t supply fighter jets, can you help provide one of the things that fighter jets provide, namely deep attack?
“And yes, we can, we can do that with Storm Shadow.”
Meanwhile, when asked about Norway’s potential donation of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, Gram stated that this is not currently on the agenda and does not want to speculate about future donations.
The British government announced last week that it would supply Ukraine with long-range missiles.
Long-range, air-launched cruise missiles can travel up to 350 miles and carry a warhead of up to 450 kilograms (992 pounds). It was developed by British Aerospace and a French company, according to the Royal Air Force.
Moscow warned that the move would receive an “appropriate response” from the Russian military.
Other countries, including the United States, are hesitant to provide such weapons, fearing that if used against targets in Russia it could lead to an escalation of the conflict.
