Russia launched an attack on kyiv early Tuesday morning that left at least one fatality and seven injured, while the Moscow authorities accused a “terrorist attack” by Ukrainian drones on the Russian capital.

At least 20 Shahed explosive drones were destroyed by air defense forces in Kiev’s airspace in the third Russian attack on the city in the past 24 hours, according to the first data provided by the military administration.

In the night attacks on kyiv, one person was killed and seven others were wounded, according to the municipal military administration. A tall building caught fire in the Holosiiv district after being hit by debris from the downed drones. The top two floors were destroyed and people may be under the rubble, according to the military government. More than 20 people were evacuated.

Meanwhile, Moscow residents reported explosions and the Defense Ministry later said eight drones were fired into the city in what it described as a “terrorist attack” by the “Kiev regime.” According to the note, five of them were shot down and the other three were diverted after tampering with their systems.

In a post on Telegram, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin explained that the attack caused “insignificant damage” to several buildings and that two people received medical attention for unspecified injuries, but did not need to be hospitalized. Residents of the two buildings damaged in the attack were evacuated.

For their part, the Ukrainian authorities did not comment on the Moscow attack, which would be one of the most advanced into the neighboring country since the start of the invasion, in February 2022.

Elsewhere in the Ukrainian capital, falling debris caused a fire in a private house in the Darnytskyi district and three cars caught fire in Pechersky.

The offensive that began on Sunday included a rare daytime attack on Monday that left clouds of white smoke high in blue skies. Russian forces fired 11 cruise and ballistic missiles at kyiv at around 11:30 a.m., according to Ukrainian chief of staff Valerii Zaluzhnyi. They were all shot down, he claimed.

Debris from the intercepted missiles fell on the central and northern districts of Kiev in the morning, landing in traffic on a city avenue and also starting a fire on the roof of a building. At least one civilian was injured.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that earlier on Monday it had launched a series of attacks against Ukrainian airbases with long-range precision missiles fired from the air. The attacks destroyed command posts, radar, aircraft and ammunition depots.
