Prince Joachim of Denmark appears to have set his sights on America in yet another unexplained departure or divorce of royals from Europe.

Today, the royal palace announced that Queen Margrethe’s son and his wife Princess Marie will move to Washington, DC, this summer.

They did not give the reasons for the move but said that the 53-year-old will work at the Danish embassy there, under the auspices of the defense ministry.

It is understood that the couple’s two children, 13-year-old son Henrik and 11-year-old daughter Athena, will be with their parents in their relocation.

Joachim is also father to sons Nikolai, 23, and Felix, 20, from his previous marriage to Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg.

Their relationship lasted from 1995 to 2005.

In 2008 he married Marie.

The palace announced that Joachim and his 47-year-old wife had settled in France four years ago.

“After the completion of Prince Joachim’s military education in France, he and the princess are affiliated with the Danish embassy in Paris, respectively he as defense attaché and she as a special cultural representative.”

Joachim added that he had not spoken to his mother or brother Prince Frederik about the shocking news.

He added that the development comes after “unfortunately” the monarchy had not maintained ties with them since the announcement of the change of titles.

Joachim is sixth in line to the throne of Denmark.

His children keep the places of succession to the throne, respectively, the seventh to the tenth”.

“With her decision Her Majesty seeks to create the framework so that her grandchildren can create their own lives without being limited by special circumstances or obligations associated with the royal family of Denmark,” said a statement from the royal palace.

Joachim previously told the French network ‘Extra Bladet’ in Paris that the Queen’s decision to remove the right to the title for him and his children was unexpected.

“It’s not nice to see your children being mistreated like this, finding themselves in situations they can’t understand.”

Even Joachim’s first wife said that the decision is incomprehensible and sad.

“Children feel excluded. They don’t understand why their identity is being taken like this,” Alexandra said.

Joachim said he was first made aware last May of the plan to strip his children of their titles when they reach the age of 25.

Some experts say Margrethe’s decision resembles moves made by other royal houses in recent years.

In 2019, Swedish King Carl Gustav XVI announced that his children, Princess Madeleine and Prince Carl Philip, will lose their royal titles. Apparently, no one asks the queens for a public account or reason for their actions.
