VG has spoken to a person who says he is a longtime neighbor and close friend of the family and the 22-year-old and speaks on behalf of the family.

Together with some relatives, he spent the whole night in the emergency room of Ullevål hospital, says the contact person.

It was there that the young man was taken by ambulance on Sunday night after being shot by police during an action at a Grønland hotel in central Oslo.

WORKING ON THE SITE: The Bureau writes in a press release that Kripos assists with on-site crime scene investigations.

The relative contact VG spoke to says that the injured man works at a school and plays a lot of football.

– He has worked in the school environment. He’s not a bully. That he was shot shocks us all, says the man.

He says the 22-year-old was shot in the chest and not in the stomach as claimed elsewhere.

– He was shot in the right side of the chest. This is confirmed by his older brother who was present in the ambulance, the man says.

THE POLICE ARMED THEMSELVES: The incident happened in Greenland in Oslo.

– Ten minutes before, everything was fine

The relative’s contact says he usually works at a nightclub in Greenland, near the hotel where the young man was shot. He came by at 1:30 a.m. Saturday night to talk to colleagues.

The brother of the man with gunshot wounds was also present.

The man who was shot also came by and said hello.

– I met him ten minutes before it happened, and then everything was fine with him. He appeared not to be under the influence of drugs. Shortly afterwards I get word that he has been shot and is in an ambulance. It seems to us that they went after the wrong person.

– The situation is serious

The next of kin say that he immediately went to the hospital.

– Around four o’clock we were told that he was seriously injured and that he would have died if the ambulance had not arrived so quickly. A bullet passed through the upper body and entered the spinal cord.

VG has been in contact with the hospital, which does not want to comment on this.

The 22-year-old is currently in intensive care, says the family friend.

– The situation is serious. He’s on a ventilator, unable to communicate or move his legs. The bullet is still lodged in his spinal cord and hospital staff are constantly assessing his prognosis.

He says the family is very critical and surprised that the police have not contacted them.

– Despite the seriousness of the situation, we have still not been contacted. This puts a huge burden on the family. We question the lack of follow-up by the police in a situation like this.

According to communication consultant in the Oslo precinct, Siv Alsén, the police have been in contact with the 22-year-old’s family.

– For the sake of the investigation, we do not want to go into details about what that contact was about, she tells VG.

Sidra Bhatti of the Rogstad law firm is the family’s lawyer. VG hasn’t spoken to Bhatti yet.

– Why against the upper body?

– The police are trained to deal with such situations. If there was any real threat from the 22-year-old, we wonder why the choice was made to shoot the upper body and not the lower body.

They find it particularly worrying that shots were fired at the upper body, because according to the family no weapon should have been found.

– It shocked us all.

When asked if he knows if there would have been drug use in the young man’s group of friends, the friend of the family replies that he is not aware of this.

– We’re sure he wasn’t under the influence of drugs tonight.

Not convicted of drugs or violence

VG has been unable to find any previous convictions for the man, apart from a NOK 11,000 fine for preventing service to a government official. This must have happened in the summer of 2021.

The 22-year-old was charged with drug trafficking on Sunday, the police told VG on Sunday evening.
