A Moscow court has dismissed the Wall Street Journal reporter’s appeal against detention, and ordered Evan Gershkovich’s detention until the end of August.
The 31-year-old Wall Street Journal reporter was arrested in Russia on espionage charges in late March while on a reporting trip.
A Moscow court agreed last month to keep the American citizen in custody until August 30. Defense lawyers contested the decision, but the Moscow City Court dismissed his appeal today.
Gershkovich and the Wall Street Journal have denied allegations that he spied on Russia. The US government has declared him wrongly detained and demanded his immediate release.
