According to Cerna, unlike other seasons of high levels of offers, online purchases related to the Mother’s Day celebration remain relatively stable in relation to transactions during the year, and at most they increase between 6% and 7%. .

new gifts for mom

Although surely this May 10 there will be no shortage of flower arrangements, balloons, cakes and clothes, each time, gifts for mom have been changing in recent times, mainly with the emergence of digital products.

“Smart devices that are used for the home are the ones that are beginning to be requested the most right now. For example, smart microwaves, where a person can operate the microwave with their cell phone from an app. And thus, there is a great variety of new devices for mass consumption”, said Cerna.

Changing Gift Buying Culture

According to Cerna, e-commerce has become an increasingly preferred shopping channel for Guatemalans, and it is mainly for three reasons that represent a paradigm shift in shopping: the cost, if it is cheaper, then they buy it online; the availability of the product, if the product that you want to buy physically is not in stock, you buy it online.

And finally, saving time, online purchases are made after working hours and from the comfort of home, since people prefer to avoid wasting time looking for parking or going to more than one store if they don’t find the gift in a first point.

According to the 4th National Study of Electronic Commerce in Guatemala, by the Chamber of Commerce (CCG), in 2022, international online purchases totaled some $S$262 million, a growth equivalent to 19% compared to 2021; online sales in national stores totaled US$535 million, 36% more than the previous year; and 15,150 online stores were registered.
