After demonstrating against Economy and Social Development, they organize a massive act for Labor Day. El Evita, for now, is in tension with Victoria Tolosa Paz and preserves the link with Sergio Massa.

After the Unión de Trabajadores de la Economía Popular (UTEP) demonstrated on Wednesday outside the ministries of Economy and Social Development, the social movements of the Frente de Todos announced a mass mobilization against the IMF for the 1st of May.
“We are going to get a million people. This agreement is impossible”, enthused a social leader who occupies a Secretary of State.
With Victoria Tolosa Paz, the bridges have been blown up in recent days. It coincided with the latest IMF report that shows the need to limit the list of beneficiaries of social plans and after the minister confirmed that her portfolio will personally inspect the 160,000 beneficiaries of the Nexo program who receive the equivalent of a Potentiate and make minimum wage.

The tension between the official social organizations – which hold positions in a dozen secretariats and sub-secretaries of State – forced to postpone for the fourth time the convocation of the Council of the Popular Economy that had been scheduled for this week and in which the ministries will have representation of Economy, Social Development and Work and of the UTEP.
The legal term for the formation of the new entity – which seeks to centralize the policies of the sector and whose executive secretary will be Daniel Menéndez, undersecretary of Social Development and leader of Somos Barrios de Pie – expired three months ago. The new tentative date of the call is 24.
Tolosa Paz argued that the mobilization of the UTEP obeyed an internal one among the social movements. “We are as united as we were against (Mauricio) Macri”, was the forceful response of a weighty leader of the Evita Movement, whose chief Emilio Pérsico manages from the Ministry of Social Economy the Empower Work program that is paid by 1,200,000 beneficiaries.
The march on May 1 -in which sectors of the CTA-Autonomous, some unions of the CGT, left-wing groups that until now were part of the Piquetera Unit and all sectors of the UTEP, where in addition to Evita, Barrios de Pie converge the CCC and the MTE of Juan Grabois- is proof of this.
The pro-government organizations had already marched for Labor Day in 2021 and 2022. The slogans of each act and the next sincerely the evolution of the link between the orgas and the Government: of the support for Fernandez; to the criticism of the palace inmates to the repudiation of the IMF.
“Today’s mobilization (for Wednesday) I don’t like. I talked about it with Emilio (Pérsico) and I’m going to talk about it with (the UTEP union secretary) Gildo Onorato. His statements hurt me because this minister does not adjust ”, Tolosa Paz had said.
Until now, the Minister of Social Development has not spoken with Onorato, with whom she knew how to share political armament in her hometown, La Plata.
“What hurts is hunger, since Victoria took charge of the table against hunger, the problems have not stopped growing: inequality grows, poverty grows and ineffective policies are implemented, because the Food Card did not improve almost any indicator” , Onorato maintained.
The minister, on Tuesday, had taken charge of the announcement of the 35% increase in the Food Card, which, according to official data, is received by 2,458,238 families. Pérsico criticized that policy from the outset. “It is bread for today and hunger for tomorrow,” he said in May 2021.
Onorato did not spare criticism of Tolosa Paz either. “Instead of promising the IMF to reduce social investment, it would have to listen to the suffering of those who suffer from inflation, insecurity, job uncertainty. We need humility and one way would be for you to acknowledge your failure. The community networks that are affecting with their initiatives are the last maya of containment against crime, drug dealing and build stability. People are disappointed with her”, added the Evitista leader.
For now, Evita concentrates her objections on Tolosa Paz and preserves the link with Massa. In the UTEP, on the other hand, there are leaders like Grabois who have already announced that they will not support a hypothetical presidential candidacy of the Tigrense.
In 10 months, Pérsico went from affirming that the agreement with the IMF “would not condition anything” to making the fight against the credit agency one of the main flags of his brand new Patria de Lxs Comunes group, with which Evita intends to compete in the PASO.
Some of the social leaders who accompany Pérsico in the party adventure do not hide the internal tension, but they are confident that the blood will not reach the river. “These are moments of anxiety, but he is going to settle down. Macri is not going to break up with (Horacio) Rodríguez Larreta and we don’t have much of a margin either,” they said.
Another point of conflict between social organizations and the Government revolves around 30% of public works of less than $300 million, which decree 728/22 -the same one that prevents the registration of plans and ordered the formation of the Popular Economy Council – Enabled granting to cooperatives. In the Government they maintain that in this mandate there is no margin to advance in that direction, which motivated the alarm of the construction companies.
