The Minister of Energy, Erick Tejada Carbajal, announced this Friday that the electricity rate adjustment for July-September 2023 will be 4%.

“After collating data on all of the generation base costs, we are able to announce that the rate adjustment for the months of July, August and September will be a reduction of approximately 4% in the electricity rate,” reported Tejada on his Twitter account.

The reduction in the energy bill of the subscribers of the National Electric Power Company (Enee) represents a relief for the economy of thousands of Hondurans.

The last adjustment to the electricity rate had a reduction of 2.2% from April 1 to the end of June 2023.

Honduras is going through an energy crisis for which the Enee established programmed power cuts per circuit of 3 to 4 hours a day.

Power blackouts are due to insufficient generation due to the El Niño phenomenon, but Enee has indicated maintenance and sabotage as reasons for the cuts.

In the first week of June, the Government announced the creation of a Public-Private Inter-institutional Technical Commission to seek strategies and solutions to face the deficit in electric power generation that the country is going through.
