Nobody seems to be calm in Laboulaye since last Thursday. This rugged city in the south of Cordoba, with wide streets and imposing mansions, has not been the same for a week and all the focus is on the crime of Joaquín Sperani, the 14-year-old adolescent murdered with blows to the head.
On Sunday, the same day that a cousin found the body in an abandoned house a few meters from the school the young man attended, his inseparable friend confessed to the murder. The 14-year-old boy was transferred to the Admission and Diagnostic Center of the Esperanza Complex, where minors under 18 years of age are being prosecuted. The unit is located in the Cordoba capital, 380 kilometers from Laboulaye.
This Tuesday, the judge of Control, Offenses, Childhood, Youth, Juvenile Criminal, Family Violence and Gender, interviewed Joaquín’s friend through a videoconference in what was the first contact between the court, which must determine the steps to follow with his case, based on the premise that he is a minor and unimputable.
The public defender, Mariana Ferreyra, accompanied the minor and kept him informed of the details of the process while informing him of his rights.
Joaquín had been wanted since the afternoon of Thursday the 29th, when he did not go to the school where he attended secondary school in Laboulaye.
No details of the meeting were revealed and Judge Moro has not addressed the media since he took charge of the investigation. He also did not disclose whether the defendant ratified his confession before the Court in charge of the case.
Far away in the field
Rumors grow and multiply in the streets of Laboulaye. In a field located to the north of the city, the defendant’s family has a small dairy business that has been maintained for years.
The boy is the only child of the couple, according to the story of Martín Sperani, Joaquín’s father. The man had a close relationship with the defendant’s parents, due to the friendship that the two children had forged since third grade.
The little field is located in the humblest area of Laboulaye, with families that are dedicated to livestock or agricultural activities. There is garbage everywhere, farm animals running free in the front yards of houses and children playing ball in huge vacant lots.
The Ipem 278 “Malvinas Argentinas”, the school that Joaquín and his two friends attended.
The house of the accused teenager’s parents is one of those typical country buildings that is accessed through a gate, through a long corridor well formed by tall trees.
In front of the gate, a Córdoba Police van cuts off the onlookers and the press teams that traveled to Laboulaye from Buenos Aires and Córdoba to cover the case.
In the town, the versions indicate that the family went to the provincial capital to be closer to the adolescent, who remains housed in the center for minors.
And silence is complete among those close to the minor who, since Joaquín’s horrific end was unleashed, had no contact with the parents of the murdered teenager.
On the bike
Joaquín’s school, IPEM 278 “Malvinas Argentinas”, has about 600 students who did not have classes this Wednesday because workshops and meetings between teachers and agents of the Ministry of Education of Córdoba continue. Usually, a high percentage of boys arrive at school by bicycle. At the entrance of the building there is usually a swarm of bikes of all types, brands and sizes.
Last Thursday, the bike that Joaquín had arrived on had been left alone in front of the school. A relative found her when Mariela Flores, the teenager’s mother, had already started looking for him among her contacts.
That was the first warning sign for the Speroni who ran to the police station to report the disappearance.
Clarín spoke this Wednesday with Martín and Mariela, Joaquín’s parents, and in his words the lack of a clear explanation for his friend having made the determination to kill his son with such ferocity resonated again.
Martín Sperani and Mariela, Joaquín’s parents.
“It is hard for us to believe that it was him. They were always friends, we have shared time with the parents”, said Mariela. And Martín acknowledged that he had no contact with the other parents since everything happened to him.
“We are focused on finding out what happened. If it was the friend, tell us; but we still don’t know,” said Mariela, adding: “We think there were more people, but perhaps the investigation later reveals something else.”
The woman complained about the lack of support she had from the municipality and the neglect she received from the Police, the Prosecutor’s Office and the school.
“As a mother, I am going to control everything so that nothing escapes. I will be behind the c… of them watching to see what they do,” said Mariela.
13 minutes
The other hypothesis that is being talked about in the city is based on evidence provided by the videos that have been circulating since the weekend in which Joaquín is observed in a first image with his friend walking from school to the abandoned house. Thirteen minutes later, only the friend appears and it is seen when he drops a cell phone that would later be determined to be Joaquín’s.
Minutes later, according to the elements that have been revealed in the case, the boy enters the school and stays in class.
The question asked in Laboulaye is what happened in those 13 minutes and if it is possible that in that short period a crime could have been committed with such viciousness. And how the defendant was able to return to take classes at school without showing any kind of feeling after the crime.
It is at this point that the hypothesis appears that indicates that more people participated in the event and place the friend as a possible “deliverer”.
On this point, Mariela has a string of unanswered questions. “No one at school saw that the friend had Joaquín’s cell phone? Did no one see if he had blood stains on his clothes? Didn’t any teacher see that L. was exalted? ”, Inquired the woman at the door of her house.
In chorus, Martín and Mariela said that only a hit man or a psychopath could act like this. And the doubts remain intact from the minute they found out that their son was dead and that their best friend had confessed to the crime.
