Scolding of mayors or former mayors of the National Unity of Hope (UNE) as well as claims to residents for abstentionism were the issues that prevailed in visits by candidate Sandra Torres to towns in Chimaltenango and El Progreso.

As it did with the pro-government candidate Manuel Conde and as it will do with other presidential candidates, Prensa Libre and Noticiero Guatevisión were present this weekend at the rallies of the UNE candidate.

In the first round of the 2019 elections, Sandra Torres achieved 1 million 122 thousand 909 votes, against the 614 thousand 25 votes that the now president Alejandro Giammattei achieved. However, in the second round she only achieved 1.3 million votes against the 1.9 million of the official party.

What happened in 2019 is part of Torres’ memory that this weekend both in San Francisco Paquip, Tecpán, Chimaltenango, and in Sanarate, El Progreso, he emphasized the issue of the support he receives for the first round but that is not represented in the same way in the second rounds.

“We won the first round, but we couldn’t win the second, because many forgot about me, they didn’t support me, they left me alone, but I already forgave them,” Torres said.

At the end of Torres, she was approached about the emphasis she has placed on this issue and responded: “The message today is that we can win in the first round. I don’t drown before crossing the river. So we are seeing numbers, seeing polls, we have to wait but we have already advanced in the strategies, we have changed strategies, and we are in the fight, ”she added.

“I humbly ask the people to support me, because they have had the last three presidents who have failed the people, I have not failed them,” Torres said.

Lashes against “Sound”

Torres also took the opportunity to attack César Augusto Rodas Álvarez, known as Sonoro, and who was mayor of Sanarate from 2000 to 2016, with several parties, one of them UNE.

“If they look at Sonoro, they greet him, because I do know the tricks of that crafty man. When we made the government, he was not from the UNE and what did we do? We did not see flag colors, he was the first lady and we helped all the people, ”Torres said in a tone of claim.

Rodas Álvarez now competes with the official party Vamos in search of returning to the mayor’s office.

Hike

In Sanarate, Torres was expected to arrive at 3 local time; he did it 30 minutes later.

However, an hour before, a crowd carried out a walk through the streets of the municipality that culminated in the central park, as part of the beginning of the political campaign of Víctor Guerra, known as El Pibe, current mayor of Sanarate and son of the head of the bench of the UNE, the deputy Víctor Guerra.

During the walk, backpack-type bags and bracelets were delivered. People were accompanied by a Garífuna dance group that made the attendees dance to the rhythm of punta this Sunday.

Torres was also accompanied by Deputy Danilo Palencia, who seeks to continue in Congress.

In his speech, Torres reiterated some promises that he has made in other places, such as the elimination of VAT on basic basket products, as well as on medicine and the fuel tax.

He also made other offers such as internet in schools, the installation of security cameras and the construction of an overpass.

In Tecpán, Chimaltenango, Torres made a series of offers such as VAT exemption for 10 basic basket products and taxes on fertilizers as well as agricultural inputs.

The candidate arrived in a white van, taking into account that due to the conditions of the space where the rally was held, the helicopter in which Torres was traveling landed at a nearby site.

On stage, he sat next to the candidate for mayor of Tecpán for the UNE, Fausto Sisimit, as well as the candidate for deputy for the district of Chimaltenango, Mynor Francisco Rivera.

Torres also questioned the governments of Otto Pérez Molina, Jimmy Morales and Alejandro Giammattei on the issue of social programs.

“Today there is nothing. Or have they already been given something? They are not going to give them I am going to give them to them on the 14th at 2:00 p.m. “, Torres explained.

At the end of the rally, the people who arrived by bus received tamales.

Two trucks were placed in the place where boxes with tamales, pirujos and soft drinks were transported.
