The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) has announced that all aerial cableway operations will be closed for a few weeks in late July and early August to allow for annual maintenance.

As a result, the cable cars do not operate between July 24 and August 7. De Wahida Parker, the general manager, said maintenance and safety were a priority for the company.

Wahida said their annual maintenance periods allow them to make major updates and upgrades to all aspects of their business and operations so they can provide visitors with an even better and more enjoyable experience by the time they reopen.

Last year, maintenance work was halted for six weeks due to major works. It seems that this time the works are less intense and only need to be closed for two weeks.

“Whether for a long or short closure, our priority is always the safety and comfort of our visitors and our employees. We adhere to the best safety standards and our annual closures help us verify that we meet these requirements,” said Parker.

She said they know the closure will take place while the Netball World Cup takes place in Cape Town, and holidaymakers from Europe will also land in the Western Cape. But safety comes first for them.

Parker said hikers and climbers can still enjoy the various hiking trails during this time. However, no rides will be made during the two weeks. She stressed that the food and beverage outlets and shops in the cable car’s valley station would not be operational during the closure.
