The National League published this Wednesday the new qualification criteria for the Central American Cup (formerly the Concacaf League): Comunicaciones and Cobán Imperial have already secured their place in the tournament.

The Executive Committee of the National League shared a statement on social networks detailing what the affiliated clubs need to get a pass to the tournament that brings together the best clubs in the area.

Guatemala will have three representatives in the 2023 Central American Cup, of which two are already known: Comunicaciones FC and Cobán Imperial.

Which teams will qualify for the 2023 Concacaf Central American Cup?

The champion of the Opening Tournament of the official season (Cobán Imperial) The champion of the Closing Tournament of the official season Team that has scored the highest number of points in the accumulated table of the tournaments of the official season (Comunicaciones FC)

“In the event that the same club is champion of the official season tournaments, it will occupy one place and the remaining two places will be assigned to the clubs that have added the most points in the accumulated table of the official season”, explains the statement.

Concacaf also explains the tiebreaker criteria:

If two or more clubs tie in points, the club that will qualify for the Concacaf Central American Cup will be the one with the best goal difference in the accumulated table of the official season. If two or more clubs tie both in points and in goal difference, the club with the highest number of goals scored in the accumulated table of the official season will qualify for the Concacaf Central American Cup.

Cobán Imperial achieved its classification after beating Antigua GFC in the final of the Apertura 2022 tournament; the albo combo did it for being the best team in the accumulated table of the current season.
