Two young people aged 19 and 21 were arrested this Monday in the Lanús district of Buenos Aires, accused of being the motochorros who shot and stole the weapon of a city police officer who was riding a motorcycle through Avellaneda on May 28.
The arrests were carried out in the midst of four raids requested by the prosecutor Solange Cáceres, of the Functional Instruction Unit (UFI) 3 Decentralized of Avellaneda, in the framework of the case labeled as “aggravated robbery due to the use of a firearm in a contest real with homicide criminis causa (kill to achieve impunity) in the degree of attempt with motorcycle jets “.
One of the suspects was identified as Thiago Jeremías Farías, 19, who was arrested during one of the procedures that took place on Magallanes street, in Lanús. When the agents broke into the house, the young man jumped out of the window to escape, but was intercepted by the police. He seized a 38 caliber revolver with ammunition.
In another of the raids, they found a black jacket and sports pants similar to those used by the criminal who was riding the motorcycle on the day of the crime, according to security camera videos. Shortly after, the suspect, identified as Ezequiel Juárez, 21, was located and arrested.
The victim of the attack is Jonathan Larre, 40, a senior officer from Comuna 1C of the City Police. He was shot in the right leg and another in the abdomen, although he later recovered and was out of danger.
The details of the violent assault on the police officer in Avellaneda
The crime occurred on May 28, around 7:30 p.m., when officer Larre was heading to work on his motorcycle and wearing police pants, but with a jacket that did not belong to the force.
He stopped at a traffic light on Avenida Hipólito Yrigoyen at 1200, in the Avellaneda district. Seconds later, two criminals who were on another motorcycle came from behind and intercepted him to rob him, but the agent resisted.
In the sequence -recorded in the videos-, one of the criminals took the official weapon from the officer and fired two shots at him, one in the abdomen and the other in the right leg. Both attackers then fled.
The Buenos Aires policeman was transferred by ambulance to the Fiorito Hospital, where he underwent surgery and was later referred to the Italian Hospital in the city of Buenos Aires, where it was reported that he was stable and out of danger.
