The candidate for councilor of the National Unity of Hope (UNE) party, Erlindo Rodríguez Samayoa, died last Saturday, June 17, when he was attacked with a firearm in Concepción Las Minas, Chiquimula.
According to the authorities, the attack occurred at 9:30 p.m. in front of a business that Rodríguez Samayoa owned.
Rodríguez Samayoa, 45, died when he was shot dead when he was in front of the building.
After obtaining the witnesses’ version, the National Civil Police (PNC) determined that it was a direct attack, since the attackers were two individuals who were traveling on a motorcycle.
The Municipal Prosecutor’s Office of the Public Ministry of Esquipulas began the investigation and confirmed that various indications were obtained, including a firearm.
The party’s National Executive Committee issued a statement stating that the incident was an “affront” to the environment prior to the elections and requested that the case be investigated.

Last Wednesday, June 14, individuals shot past the Cabal party headquarters located in El Tejar, Chimaltenango, where they left behind a package with a consigned message.
The mayoral candidate for that town from the same party, Elías Ramírez, denounced that it was an act of intimidation.
The candidate for the presidency of the political organization, Edmund Mulet, spoke at a press conference after the attack and confirmed that the events had been denounced.
At the end of April, the murder of another candidate for substitute councilor in Zacapa was reported.
Miguel Ángel Villeda García, aspired to a popularly elected position in the mayoralty of that municipality and died when he was attacked with a firearm while driving his vehicle.
According to the investigations, Villeda García was preparing to drop her son off at school when subjects on a motorcycle shot at him. The minor was injured and was transferred to a private center.
