An 81-year-old woman was murdered this Saturday at her home in the city of Mar del Plata, where there was also a start of fire, presumably intentional. The investigators of the case sought to determine if the homicide occurred in the context of a robbery.

The victim, identified as Elizabeth Othondo, was found around 8:00 p.m. by firefighters in a room in the house located at 2700 Rodríguez Peña, in the Chauvín neighborhood.

According to the information published by local media, it was the residents of the place who had the keys to the house who notified the Emergencies, after finding traces of blood and noticing that smoke was coming from one of the rooms.

Upon arriving at the place and after quelling the incident registered within that environment, personnel from the Central Headquarters found the lifeless body of the woman.

The investigation of the event was carried out by the prosecutor Leandro Arévalo, head of the Functional Instruction Unit 7, who ordered that an autopsy of the woman’s body be carried out this Sunday, to determine the causes of death.

Arévalo also ordered the survey and analysis of security cameras of the municipal monitoring system in the area and also those located in nearby homes and businesses.

Experts from the Scientific Police and personnel from the Departmental Directorate of Investigations were working at the scene tonight.

After obtaining the results of the autopsy, the prosecutor in charge of that case, Florencia Salas, head of UFI 1, asked that the event be investigated as a homicide, since it was established that the victim had blows to the skull.

This is the second homicide in less than a month of an elderly woman in the city, whose home is set on fire. On May 7, the charred body of a woman identified as María Angélica Rossi, 74, was found in her house in Bosque Peralta Ramos.

A house exploded last Tuesday in the Almirante Brown district, apparently due to “an accumulation of gas”, and caused the death of an adult over 97 years of age. According to residents of the San José neighborhood, the loud explosion was heard in several blocks around.

The episode occurred in a house located at 600 La Rioja street, a few meters from the border with the Lomas de Zamora district. The upper floor was the one that presented the greatest damage.

Firefighters and Civil Defense personnel from that Buenos Aires municipality worked at the scene and rescued the injured elderly man from under the rubble, who was urgently transferred by ambulance to the Arturo Oñativia hospital in Rafael Calzada, where he arrived in critical condition, and died shortly. after entering the guard for wounds and burns received in 60 percent of the body.

Jorge, a son of the deceased old man, declared on Crónica TV that he was on the ground floor, where he lives, when he heard the explosion. “It happened at the time he was having tea, perhaps the stove in the kitchen went out, although he also had a gas screen,” he added.

Neighboring houses to the one that suffered the explosion also suffered damage as a result of falling debris, as did the vehicles that were parked in their respective garages.
