Bus line 9 stopped circulating this Saturday due to a decided strike after one of its drivers was assaulted by criminals who, after cutting his face with a knife, stole his belongings and escaped in the Buenos Aires town of Villa Caraza.
After the event that occurred in that town in the Lanús district, in the south of the suburbs, a workers’ assembly paralyzed the service to demand safety for all drivers and passengers.
“We are going to be paralyzing the service until they give us security guarantees in the area that is very insecure. We do not want to have another event like what happened with the colleague (Daniel) Barrientos from company 620,” Fernando confirmed to the Télam agency. The thieves attacked the driver with a knife with which they cut his face and stole a chain, his wedding ring, and the wallet in which the driver, in addition to his driving license and identity document, had no more than 500 pesos.
Delegate Morales said that the driver “was treated by an ambulance and referred to the ART.”
The line belongs to the General Tomás Guido company and runs from Villa Caraza to Retiro.
The union member added that the criminals “get on as common passengers, at a certain point of the route they assault the bus, attack people and rob them,” and stressed that the drivers “are exposed” to situations like these.
Morales pointed out that “the area (Villa Caraza) is complicated” and during the early morning “you have to be careful throughout the journey.”
Regarding the force measure of line 9, he reported that they are abstaining from tasks while waiting for the authorities to contact the company. Therefore, the stoppage of bus line 9 will be “until further notice.”
