Customers will be able to live better and protect the planet with at least 250 products from various categories that make a difference in climate change, support communities, advance towards the zero waste policy, to take into account the correct use of natural resources.

Aliados del Planeta, is part of Walmart’s agenda that transcends the preservation of the planet to lead as a regenerative company in Central America, in favor of restoring, renewing and replenishing natural resources and for the benefit of the communities where it operates.

“Allies of the Planet means living better and is part of all the positive actions we carry out to strengthen families, the communities in which we operate, as well as the planet. We want to be the spearhead to transform the Retail industry and the entire value chain towards regenerativity, encouraging others to follow our example,” said Marco Murillo, Walmart Mexico and Central America Sustainability Manager for the region.

The initiative is presented with the collaboration of the Business Alliance for Sustainability and 10 of the companies that make it up, plus 12 Walmart suppliers. The multinational company has a commitment in all the markets in which it has a presence in the world to become a Regenerative Company, where nature and humanity are at the center of its decisions and business practices.

With this approach, Aliados del Planeta makes sustainable products available to customers in the 10 Walmart stores and in the 26 Paiz Supermarkets that the company has in Guatemala. Also at points of sale and available in digital catalogs walmart.com.gt and paiz.com.gt

Walmart, together with its suppliers, also offers groceries, consumables, general merchandise, textiles and perishables, which include attributes that qualify them as sustainable. For this, the 4 defined pillars of climate change, zero waste, community and natural resources were taken into account, and which were previously verified within the work tables of the Business Alliance for Sustainability.

Climate change: These products were made with reduced consumption of electricity and fossil fuels, in addition they used renewable sources and refrigeration systems that use gases with low global warming potential.

Zero waste: Significantly reduced packaging, intelligent reuse of materials, easy to recycle.

Community: Products made by companies that actively support the community and that are recognized by public social welfare organizations. They do not contain ingredients that are toxic or harmful to humans.

Natural Resources: Products manufactured with sustainable raw materials or free of ingredients that are harmful to the environment. With processes certified by an environmentally recognized organization.

With the Aliados del Planeta Program, Walmart México y Centroamérica in Guatemala, its suppliers and the Business Alliance for Sustainability, intends to make a difference for the benefit of consumers, both with good environmental practices in the supply chain, and with initiatives that add value to the life cycles of products.
