SYDNEY – Police in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) announced early Sunday morning that three people who were in two parked cars were injured in a shooting at a public place in Greenacre, a suburb in southwest Sydney.
A 25-year-old man was found injured in a parked car. Another man, aged 22, and a woman, aged 19, were injured in a separately parked vehicle.
The Sydney Morning Herald, citing Australian police, reported that the victims were in their parked cars on Mayvic Street at around 2:15 am when they were attacked.
All three people have been taken to hospital and both men are in critical condition, according to police. The woman’s condition is reportedly stable.
About five minutes after the shooting, a vehicle was reportedly set on fire in a nearby area, Regents Park, and it is being investigated whether the incidents are related, police added.
Detective Superintendent Simon Glasser told local media that the investigation is still in its infancy and that police believe it is a “targeted attack”.
The Sydney Morning Herald said Australian police are also investigating whether the shooting is part of gang-related crime in the city. XINHUA
