Similarly, black tea consumption is associated with a reduction in stroke risk, according to a study published in Stroke. The cardioprotective effect is thought to be related to the presence of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG).

However, effects on weight are not always significant and should be considered with caution. One study showed an increase in fat oxidation by 17% through ingestion of green tea.
