Former President Donald Trump vowed on Saturday to ban “child sexual mutilation” and denounced the idea of biological men competing against female athletes as “demeaning” to women.

During his speech at the North Carolina Republican Party convention in Greensboro, Trump became especially animated when he discussed transgender issues.

“I will keep men out of women’s sports,” Trump said to loud applause, making a weightlifting motion with his arms.

The former president went on to say that long-standing athletic records are being “erased,” specifically mentioning weightlifting. He told a story of a woman he described as a “great champ” who could lift “something like 218 pounds,” but no more.

“Then a guy comes over. Bingo!” said Trump, lifting an imaginary weight with his hands. “But you know what, honestly, it’s really humiliating for women.”

Trump then turned to swimming.

“Some women get seriously injured by the wind caused by the man going so much faster,” Trump said. “The wind is blowing. It’s just awful. It’s so unfair.”

The former president called those who allow biological men who identify as women to participate in women’s sports “sick” and “disturbed.” Trump then pledged to ban “child sexual mutilation” in all 50 states as president, drawing loud applause from the public.

Trump’s comments come as conservative states have developed advanced legislation to ban sex reassignment procedures such as puberty blockers and hormone therapy for minors under the age of 18.
