Six-year-old twins were found safe and sound after they were allegedly abducted by their mother in Montreal on Tuesday, triggering a Quebec Amber Alert.

The two girls were found in Saint-Alexis, Que., about 60 kilometers northeast of downtown Montreal, according to Montreal police.

The mother has also been found, says a police spokesperson.

In Quebec, only two police departments are authorized to activate an Amber Alert, the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal and the Sûreté du Québec.

An Amber Alert is issued when the police have reasonable grounds to believe that a child has been abducted and is at risk of serious harm.
