The board that governs Georgia’s public schools Tuesday licensed the College of Georgia to determine a medical college at its Athens campus.
The state Board of Regents gave unanimous approval to what can be Georgia’s second public medical college. The opposite is the Medical School of Georgia in Augusta.

Gov. Brian Kemp and different state officers have mentioned a brand new medical college is required as a result of Georgia faces a scarcity of medical doctors.

“The College of Medication will considerably develop the pool of medical professionals in Georgia, appeal to extra top-tier scientists and researchers to the state, and produce extra physicians to serve underserved and rural Georgia communities,” UGA President Jere Morehead mentioned in a press release.
The state Home has accredited $50 million for design and development of the UGA College of Medication in an amended fiscal 2024 funds that’s awaiting a Senate vote. That’s roughly half the cash wanted to construct the college.

Officers may even search accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Schooling, which units requirements for U.S. faculties that award medical doctorate levels.
