WASHINGTON — U.S., Taiwanese and Japanese forces will share real-time data from reconnaissance drones to bolster coordination, the Financial Times reported Wednesday, citing people familiar with the project.
Late in Trump’s presidency, the US announced more than $5 billion (S$6.7 billion) in arms sales to Taiwan, including four $600 million aerial drones intended to enhance the island’s capabilities and a Chinese discourage invasion.
The FT said Washington would allow those aircraft to be integrated into the system that US forces in the region and Japan’s self-defense force will use.
The report added that this would allow the US and its partners to simultaneously observe all the information gathered by the unmanned aerial vehicles. REUTERS
