The USA will host a 32-team FIFA Club World Cup for the first time in 2025, as the start of the men’s 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“The FIFA Council, at its meeting via videoconference from FIFA Headquarters, has unanimously appointed the United States as the host of the new and expanded 32-team FIFA Club World Cup to take place in 2025.” The body said in a statement on Friday.
“The decision was made because of the United States’ position as a proven leader in organizing global events and will allow FIFA to maximize synergy for the benefit of the development of both tournaments and football with the presentation of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the North American region,” he said. Canada, Mexico and the USA will host the 2026 World Cup as the final international soccer competition returns to North America.
The USA last hosted the men’s World Cup 30 years ago, in 1994. Mexico, on the other hand, hosted the World Cup finals twice, in 1970 and 1986. This will be Canada’s first time to host a men’s World Cup tournament.
As a next step, FIFA will work with relevant stakeholders to finalize the dates, venues and match schedule for this new tournament (2025 Club World Cup).
“The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 will be the pinnacle of elite professional men’s club football, and with the necessary infrastructure and great local interest, the United States is the ideal host to kick off this new, global tournament.” said. FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

While Europe has 12 slots for the expanded 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, the host country will have one slot.
Established in 2000, Real Madrid last won the Club World Cup in 2022.
The Spanish football giant has won five times to become the world record holder.
The next Club World Cup, the 20th edition of the competition, will be played in Saudi Arabia in December 2023, the swan song of the seven-team Club World Cup.
