Mayor Erion Veliaj closely inspected the houses of the new neighborhood in Peza, where the families left homeless after the devastating earthquake of November 2019 will not be accommodated.

The neighborhood, said Veliaj, was built thanks to the charity action of Albanians through the “Frideus” Foundation.

“The Firdeus Foundation and ‘Albanians for Albanians’ have given us the opportunity to prove that we are descendants of those Rilindars who, when there was a need for schools, built schools, and when there was a need for organization, they organized. When it was necessary to declare independence, they declared independence. And when there was a need for a modest state, they made a modest state possible. And when the pandemic hit and especially when the earthquake hit and it was necessary for a house, ‘Albanians for Albanians’ gave more than many of the donors” – said Veliaj.

Veliaj also told a special story of getting to know the head of the “Frideus” foundation, Elvis Naçi.

“Visi and I grew up together on Rruga e Elbasani, even as life comes. Two people without a point of connection, without a point of recognition neither with the Bloc, nor with big names, nor with other parties nor with powerful connections, one leads a spiritual community and became the hoxha of the Tabake mosque and the other, this neighborhood thug who sold figs, became the mayor of Tirana.

That’s how life comes. And I’m not saying this about me and Vis, but that some of those kids humming in the background could be the next Lali and Vis. They can be the mayor or the mayoress, they can be the leader of a spiritual community, they can be the leader of a community, apartment or a new village, a new neighborhood. They can be someone who inspires us with a good job they do, and I firmly believe that today we have living examples. And in this place, not a perfect place, as long as two neighborhood chunas can lead important operations, it means that we have built not only mortar and bricks, but big dreams and hopes for the children of Peza” – said Veliaj.

In Peza, a total of 224 flats have been built, and over 500 houses and apartments with over 9 million euros in donations collected.
