Russian leader Vladimir Putin has visited Valaam Monastery together with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko.
The two leaders’ visit to Valaam comes as a monitoring group believes fighters from the Wagner Group have begun entering Belarus, according to the deal following the group’s coup attempt.
About 3,450 to 3,650 soldiers have arrived at a camp near Asipovich, a town 230 km north of the border with Ukraine, according to Belaruski Hajun, an activist group that tracks troop movements within the country. So, it is not known what was specifically discussed between the leaders.
The 14th century monastery is located on a rather small island in the middle of Lake Ladoga – the largest lake in Europe.
