The government is committed to reclaiming and preserving water catchment areas in the country.

President William Ruto said efforts are being made to reclaim, rehabilitate and preserve degraded landscapes.

Speaking at the launch of the 7th annual Kaptagat tree planting event in Elgeyo Marakwet County, the president said the move was irreversible.

“In the next 10 years, we will grow at least 15 billion trees and restore 10.6 million hectares of degraded forests and pastures.”

He said the program will fully engage the public from grassroots to cabinet.

“I appeal to every Kenyan to plant at least 30 trees every year,” explains President Ruto.

He expressed concern that extreme weather is becoming more common due to climate change caused by harmful human activities.

“Droughts have increased in frequency, intensity and duration in our country and region,”
