From Monday to Friday, in the afternoons of Miter Mar del Plata, the journalist Marcelo Marcel shares the air with the presenter Valeria Cufré, and since Friday night, that radio studio configures an incredible nonsense of these times: both, the journalist and presenter, lost their parents at the hands of criminals.
Marcelo on Friday night, when in an attempted assault his father intervened in his defense and was shot. Daniel Marcel was 78 years old, and died minutes later in the hospital. The criminals were two and remain at large. Cufré’s father, Rubén, also died at the hands of robbers: he was 57 years old and was driving a taxi when in 2014 he was killed by two motorcycles.
Although Marcelo Marcel began as a sports journalist in print, in the newspapers La Capital, first and then in El Atlántico, he ended up making his way on radio and television, where he also addresses general information issues.
He worked for just over a decade at Telediario, the Channel 10 newscast. On radio, before Miter, he had programs at Residencias, LU6 and was a correspondent for La Red. Since 2015 he has written for the digital news portal El Marplatense.
Marcel has a 30-year career in local media. During the administration of Mayor Carlos Arroyo, he was the Municipality’s Press Director.
The father of three daughters, a fanatic fan of River and well-known in the city, received public expressions of condolences on social networks for his father’s crime. Among others, the former mayor Gustavo Pulti and the current Secretary of Knowledge Economy, Juan Manuel Cheppi, expressed their solidarity with him.
how was the crime
This Friday night, after 8:00 p.m., Marcelo was preparing to enter the garage of the house of Gabito Bannat and San Lorenzo, in the Las Lilas neighborhood of Mar del Plata. While he was trying to open the entrance gate, he was approached by two criminals -one of them armed- for the purpose of robbery.
Amid shouts and threats from the assailants, who managed to take his wallet, the journalist got into a struggle with the strangers, who intended to enter the house. During those struggles, the one who was armed would have managed to trigger, but the shot did not go off.
Faced with this situation, the journalist’s father -who was on the top floor of the house- went down and tried to defend his son, and in those circumstances he was shot and left lying on the floor, while the assailants escaped.
The victim was urgently transferred by ambulance to the Interzonal Hospital in Mar del Plata, where he was admitted to the shock room unconscious with a gunshot wound that entered his left arm and exited through his skull. Shortly after she passed away.
The staff of the 12th police station is involved in the investigation. and the Mar del Plata prosecutor on duty, Romina Diaz. During these hours, they analyze the images from the security cameras installed in the area to identify and locate the criminals.
