The president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, called through her Twitter account an emergency meeting of the National Security Defense Council.

The call is due to the “claims to anarchize” the approval of the Tax Justice Law.

“Faced with the pretensions of anarchizing society and preventing the discussion and approval of the law that puts an end to tax corruption, I call the National Defense and Security Council, tomorrow, May 10, 5:00 pm. Constitutional Hall, Presidential House,” the Honduran president wrote on Twitter.

Hundreds of Hondurans came out this Monday in the city of Choluteca to demonstrate against the proposed Tax Justice Law since, according to what they were informed, it would supposedly affect companies in the southern zone of Honduras.

Regarding the demonstration, Marlon Ochoa, director of SAR, assured that “the Ministry of Labor will investigate companies that coerce their employees with manipulation and treachery over something that will not affect them.”

According to the Government, the project seeks to generate employment for the Honduran people and investors, attract foreign investment and promote national investment, but for other sectors, the Tax Justice Law it would generate price increases in the basic food basket, inflation and the flight of foreign companies.

The proposal is rejected by the private company, considering it “malicious.” The Tax Justice Law creates the Investment Incentive Regime for Development (Rinde), which according to businessmen is not viable for MSMEs.

The Tax Justice Law It was approved by the Council of Ministers on April 25, 2023, but it will be the National Congress that approves it. This week the National Congress began to socialize the Law.
