The National Civil Police (PNC) and Departmental Municipal Firefighters from the 85th station, San Juan Argueta, Sololá, confirm that this September 25, two assaults occurred inside buses of the Guadalupe and Sinaloa company that circulated on the Inter-American route, from the West. towards the capital of the Republic.
The two incidents occurred in the morning, minutes apart, and according to witnesses, four subjects with masks, inside the Guadalupe bus, at around 7:30 a.m., at kilometer 157 in the jurisdiction of Nahualá, Sololá, They stood up from their seats and declared that it was an assault.
They stripped the passengers of their belongings, fired their firearms, got off, advanced a few kilometers, and boarded the Sinaloa unit where they did the same, although without firing their weapons.
Kilometers before reaching the crossing towards Sololá, known as La Cuchilla, they descended from the latter and fled in a pickaxe that was waiting for them at the place to flee.
In the two incidents there were no injuries, although there were gunshots inside the Guadalupe bus, according to lifeguards who treated the passengers with nervous disorders.
A witness to the incident told the authorities that in the second assault, four men with masks boarded the Sinaloa transport bus around 8:15 a.m. at the entrance to the village of San Juan Argueta, Sololá, kilometer 139 of the CA route. 1 West.
“Upon arriving at kilometer 138, jurisdiction of the María Tecún neighborhood, with a firearm, they assaulted passengers of the extra-urban bus and stripped them of their belongings,” he explained.
He added: “a woman was begging that they not take her things because she had traveled to the capital for a relative who was hospitalized.”
“The assailants ignored this and stole money and cell phone. Inside the bus there were children who were traveling in the company of their parents,” said the passenger.
It was detailed that the assailants got off the bus near kilometer 133, a little before reaching La Cuchilla.
The security forces, throughout 2023, have reported that they are behind several criminal groups that operate on the Inter-American route and assault passengers of extra-urban buses that offer service from the West to Guatemala City.
They have captured at least six people linked to these groups, but the events continue.
