Prosecutors have considered charging Hunter with four felonies, NBC reported last week, including two misdemeanor counts of failure to file taxes. The third charge would be a misdemeanor tax evasion related to business expenses.
The fourth charge would be felony related to an alleged false statement regarding a gun purchase in 2018, when Hunter wrote on a form that he was not addicted to or abusing any illegal substance. Hunter used cocaine at the time, he has since admitted.
NBC also reported that two senior law enforcement sources said there is “growing frustration” within the FBI because most of the investigation by bureau agents was completed about a year ago.
