WASHINGTON – Remarkably for a country now with a population of more than a billion, India has managed to save the tiger from the brink of extinction.
Today, 50 years after the launch of the Project Tiger conservation program, India is home to an estimated 3,167 tigers, or 70 to 75 percent of the world’s wild tiger population.
