Former President Donald Trump settled another question on Thursday about whether he would sign a 15-week national abortion ban should he return to office for a second term in 2025.
Speaking to New Hampshire station WMUR, the Republican nominee said his administration would “look” at the ban that has been put in place proposed by South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham.
“We’re looking at a lot of different options. We brought it back to the United States. We did the Roe v. Wade thing, which they’ve been doing for 50 years,” Trump said, adding that he had “incredible judges and federal judges appointed.
He said that “everyone would be very pleased” with his decision on the divisive issue.

Trump was asked if that statement meant nationally.
“I think we’re going to get it done on some level. It could be on different levels, but we’re going to get it done,” he added. “I know the problem very well. I think I know the problem better than most, and we will solve that.”
Trump had previously given a similar answer when asked that question by The Associated Press in March, though he previously referred to himself as “the most pro-life president in American history.”
Trump’s campaign had released a statement suggesting that he favored a state-level settlement of the access to abortion issue, which was harshly rebuked by pro-life activists.

“President Trump’s claim that the Supreme Court has remanded the issue of abortion solely to the states is a wholly misreading of the Dobbs decision and is a morally indefensible position for a self-declared pro-life presidential candidate,” said Majorie Dannenfelser, who leads the social-conservative organization Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America in a statement.
She had previously claimed that “life is a matter of human rights, not states’ rights”, and that “nobody gets a pass”.

Dannenfelser said she had spoken to most prospective members of the GOP field and believed they would all embrace a federal ban. The pro-life group said it would not support any White House candidate who does not support at least a 15-week federal abortion ban.
Several Republican presidential candidates have been pressed on the issue in recent weeks, and all Republicans in the 2024 presidential race or on their way to running have supported state bans. Most were more cautious about a nationwide ban.

Trump spoke to evangelicals in Iowa and was applauded when he noted that he was the first president to attend the annual March for Life rally.
“Those judges won a historic victory for protecting innocent lives. Nobody thought it would happen,” Trump said of last year’s quashing of the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling, which appeared via video at a meeting of the Iowa Supreme Court. Faith and Freedom Coalition. . “They thought it would take another 50 years. Because the Republicans were trying to do it for that exact period of time, 50 years.”
