ATLANTA — The prosecutor investigating interference in Georgia’s 2020 election has agreed to immunity deals with at least eight bogus Republican voters who signed a certificate falsely stating that then-President Donald Trump had won the state.

Defense attorney Kimberly Debrow revealed the existence of the immunity agreements during a lawsuit filed Friday, saying her eight clients had accepted the agreements last month. The filing does not identify the eight people who were offered immunity deals.

Last July, an attorney for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis revealed that each of the 16 people who signed the fake voter’s certificate was the target of her investigation, which examines whether Trump and his allies committed crimes while trying to recover from his narrow election loss.

The 16 bogus voters met at the Capitol on December 14, 2020, and signed a certificate falsely declaring that Trump had won the presidential election and stating that they were the state’s “duly elected and qualified” voters.

News of the immunity deals shows Willis will continue to work on her case as she prepares to make decisions on whether to press charges this summer. In letters sent to law enforcement agencies late last month, she advised them to prepare adequate security as she plans to announce her indictment decisions between mid-July and early September.
