Texas Democratic Representative Henry Cuellar mourned the tragic mass shooting in his home state over the weekend, arguing that the U.S. needs to understand the “root problems” of mass shootings as the tragedies can unfold even in blue states with strict laws. gun laws.

“There is always a reason why certain people (carry out mass shootings) and there are always telltale signs for that. There are indicators that we should have been paying attention to. But again, to the law enforcement officers who put a stop to this, again, I thank them,” Cuellar told Shannon Bream on “Fox News Sunday.”

Eight people were killed and seven others injured in a shooting Saturday afternoon at the Allen Premium Outlets, about 20 miles north of Dallas. A local police officer “enlisted the suspect and neutralized the threat,” said Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey.

“When people talk about just… making the law tougher. You have to look at, you know, in blue states, very strict laws, you still get mass shootings like this. So it’s happening all over the country, and we have to get to the bottom of this,” he said.
