Seven people were killed and at least six injured in Brownsville, Texas, on Sunday when a man drove his vehicle into a crowd of pedestrians.
Lieutenant Martin Sandoval of the Brownsville Police Department said seven victims died at the scene and six others were transported to area hospitals. The driver has been arrested and charged, but the investigation is still ongoing.
Authorities have not yet released any identifying information about the driver, but he is currently undergoing medical treatment at a regional hospital and under 24-hour supervision. The suspect is also being tested for drugs and alcohol.
The incident took place outside the Ozanam Center in Brownsville, a community shelter for migrants and the homeless. It is unclear whether the bomb shelter was relevant to the attack.

The victims were waiting around 8:30 am on Sunday at a bus stop in the street next to the center when the attack took place.
So far, the driver has only been charged with reckless driving, but the investigation is ongoing. Sandoval told local media that more charges are likely to be filed, adding that the attack appeared to be deliberate.
Witnesses near the intersection reported seeing several bodies on the street, as well as a group of women praying nearby, according to Valley Central.

The incident came less than a day after a gunman opened fire on shoppers at a mall in Allen, Texas, on Saturday, killing eight people and injuring seven others. Police shot and killed the gunman, but have yet to identify him.
