Matías Giménez, 31, was from Misiones. He was driving without a seatbelt on and was thrown through the windshield.
A Misiones gendarme who was serving in Santa Cruz died this Sunday after losing control of his car and hitting a cement wall when he was returning from serving at the Güer Aike post. The victim was thrown from inside the vehicle, while his companion suffered only minor injuries.
Matías Gabriel Giménez, 31, worked as a first sergeant of the Gendarmerie and had arrived in Santa Cruz four years ago.
On Sunday, after finishing his guard duty, he started back to the provincial capital with a co-worker aboard his Fiat Uno.
Around 7, when they were driving on the 17 de Octubre highway, Giménez would have tried to avoid a puddle of water when he lost control of his car.
The presence of some frost on the asphalt would have contributed to the fact that the car was thrown out of its traffic lane and hit the cement cord that divides the lanes.
The road incident occurred near the Air Force base and about 400 meters from Industrial College 6.
The Fiat Uno spun a few times and ended up on the boulevard. The sergeant was thrown through the windshield because he would not have been wearing his seat belt at the time of the mistake.
When a patrol from the sixth section arrived at the scene, they found Giménez out of the car, already without vital signs. The judge on duty ordered that the body be taken to the Judicial Morgue for an autopsy.
Pain in the networks
The non-commissioned officer’s colleagues said that he had been assigned to Güer Aike for some time and had previously served at Monte Aymond. His friends knew him by the nickname “Palalo”.
As soon as the case was known, social networks were filled with messages of condolences for the family, who lives in Posadas. “You were in each and every one. Never a problem, a but. Always willing to learn, to study and to communicate. I appreciated you and highly valued your professionalism, your quality as a person and as a human being, ”said one of his comrades.
Another of the Santa Cruz gendarmes did not hesitate to describe him as an “excellent comrade, companion and friend. May God have you in glory, ”he asked.
The Santa Cruz Police warned that “this tragic incident once again highlights the importance of driving carefully in adverse weather conditions and the need to take extreme security measures while driving on the road.”
