Noam Chomsky took financial advice from Jeffrey Epstein in 2018, according to a new report.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Epstein helped Chomsky move $270,000 between bank accounts.
When reached for comment, Chomsky said he had not taken a dime from him and that it was a “technical matter”.
Noted academic and political activist Noam Chomsky sought the help of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in managing financial transactions totaling more than a quarter of a million dollars, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
The Journal announced this at the end of April Chomsky and Epstein met several times, even after Epstein pleaded guilty to soliciting and obtaining a minor for prostitution in 2008.
New reporting from the outlet highlighted that, in addition to a group dinner with Woody Allen, Epstein helped Chomsky move large sums of money, which the academic said was a “technical” reason related to dividing funds from a previous marriage .
Chomsky confirmed to the outlet that he received $270,000 in March 2018 from a bank account linked to Epstein, but said it was only to reorganize his own money and “not a penny from Epstein was involved.”
The academic said that after his former wife died 15 years ago, he needed financial guidance for a “purely technical matter”.
“Epstein gave me advice on how to transfer money from one account to another of mine,” Chomsky told Insider in an emailed statement. “The easiest way was to pass it through his office.”
He also denied ever taking money from Epstein. “Purely technical,” Chomsky added. “No payments have been made.”
Epstein, a disgraced financier accused of sex trafficking, died in 2019 in his Manhattan prison cell by suicide while awaiting trial.
More like Epstein’s infamous “black book” of the contacts shed light on who boarded his private jet, and in May, the Journal’s inspection of his calendar helped clarify who else Epstein was hanging out with.
