It will take “several months at best” for Ukraine to receive F-16 fighter jets, US Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall has said.
Last week Joe Biden announced that the US will allow its allies to train Ukrainian forces in how to operate F-16 fighter jets and eventually provide the planes themselves.
“It has worked and obviously there has been interest from Ukraine to get that kind of capability. We will not under any circumstances put F-16s or Western combat vehicles in significant numbers into the hands of the Ukrainian Air Force in less than a few months,” Kendall told reporters, according to CNN.
The Secretary of the US Air Force said the time was right to start preparing Ukraine’s military for the future.
“Ukraine will remain an independent nation,” he said, adding: “It will need a full set of military capabilities for its requirements, and so it’s time to start thinking long-term about what that might look like.” that army and what it will include.”
