The policeman who shot to death a motorcycle that stole his motorcycle in Moreno was released but was charged with “excessive homicide in self-defense,” judicial sources confirmed to Clarín.
This is the Buenos Aires Police sergeant identified by his initials as LM (31), who on Sunday night was the victim of an assault when he was riding a motorcycle with his girlfriend. The robbery was recorded by a security camera at a bus stop and in the sequence you can also see the moment in which the policeman shot the thief, who ended up dead.
In principle, the policeman was arrested accused of “aggravated homicide by the use of a firearm and for being effective of a security force.” This Tuesday, the prosecutor Gabriel López, of the Functional Instruction Unit (UFI) 8 of Moreno-General Rodríguez, took an investigative statement and the agent gave his version of the event.
In his defense, the policeman admitted that he had fired while defending himself from an attempted robbery and that he feared for his life and that of his girlfriend since the motorbike had pointed a weapon at him.
The police officer said he did not remember identifying himself as such at the time of the incident and did not specify how many shots he fired, but he did stop shooting when the suspect fell to the ground, the informants said.
He also said that the pistol he used was the one provided by the Buenos Aires Police.
“He gave his version of the facts. He confirmed what is seen in the images from the security camera that recorded what happened and cleared up doubts,” a source with access to the file explained to Télam.
In addition, the girlfriend of the agent who was with him at the time of the assault declared. López also listened to a witness who said that he was the victim of a robbery of the same motochorros moments before the robbery of the police officer.
With all these elements, the prosecutor changed the accusation to “excessive homicide in self-defense” and decided to release the police officer, judicial sources told Clarín.
In turn, prosecutor López was awaiting the preliminary result of the autopsy on the body of the deceased, identified as Andrés Aníbal Carbonel (28), who was recognized in the morgue by a relative, although it still remains to be confirmed with the comparison of fingerprints.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old youth pointed to the dead man and an accomplice such as the motorcycles who, shortly before the assault on the police officer, had accosted him on the street and stole his belongings, including an ID that appeared in Carbonel’s possession.
“He identified him by his clothes,” explained the researcher consulted.
At the same time, from the General Audit of Internal Affairs of the Buenos Aires Ministry of Security, an administrative summary was initiated to investigate the actions of the police officer involved.

Robbery, shooting and death in HD
It all began last Sunday night between 8:32 p.m. and 8:33 p.m., on Lugones and Payró streets, in La Reja, in Moreno, in the western suburbs.
According to the images from the security camera, the policeman and his girlfriend were on board a red motorcycle when they were assaulted by two motorcycles that came up next to them.
As they advanced down the street, the person who was accompanying the blue motorcycle approached the crew of the motorcycle as if he were pointing a firearm at them, for which reason, after a few meters, the policeman stopped the march.
Under these circumstances, the thief got off the blue motorcycle and approached the couple, who got out of their vehicle.
In the images it was seen how the woman first walked away, then the police officer and the assailant sat on the victims’ motorcycle, placing their hands on the handlebars.
After that, it was observed that the police officer quickly retraced his steps, took out a firearm and fired several times at the “motochorro”, who received at least four bullet wounds, one in the back.
Despite being shot, the assailant threw himself off the motorcycle and ran a few meters until he fell dead on the public road, out of range of the security camera, while his accomplice escaped on the blue motorcycle.
After the fact, the police called 911 and when personnel from the local police station arrived at the scene, they reported what had happened, while the experts kidnapped the 9-millimeter pistol used by the civilian cash.
