A handful of almonds is enough and levels of good cholesterol, which is directly related to cardiovascular health, increase by 19 percent.
Data from a recent study, which AgroWeb.org refers to in this article, show that almonds not only increase levels of good cholesterol, but also enhance the removal of bad cholesterol from the liver.
Previous studies have confirmed that this nut has the ability to lower bad cholesterol levels. This cholesterol increases the risks of cardiovascular disease.
Over a period of 6 weeks, the study scientists kept under observation two groups of patients with a high level of bad cholesterol.
The first group of patients who participated in the study consumed 43 grams of almonds per day. This is equivalent to a handful of walnuts. While the second group consumed a banana dessert.
At the end of the study period, the scientists measured the levels of good cholesterol in each of the study participants.
The study found that participants who consumed almonds experienced a 19 percent increase in good cholesterol.
Participants with a normal weight experienced increased ability of the body to transport excess cholesterol to the liver by 6.4 percent.
Almonds are rich in magnesium and potassium that fight contractions and excess fluids. They are healthy and rich in fiber and protein. 10 almonds have 100 calories.
When released into the blood, good cholesterol is in minute amounts. But during the period of accumulation of particles from every cell and tissue cholesterol increases. It then assumes a spherical shape before being deposited in the liver where it is completely broken down.
