The swearing-in ceremony of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, held on Saturday, received wide coverage in the international press.
In the UK, Sky News has broadcast live footage from the president’s inauguration following his re-election on 28 May.
The channel also shared Erdogan’s swearing-in ceremony on his Twitter account and broadcast Erdogan’s visit to the Anıtkabir, the tomb of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic.
The German weekly magazine der Spiegel wrote in its news titled “President Erdogan has sworn on my honour” that Erdogan continues to serve as president.
Other German publications also reported that observers await the announcement of Erdogan’s new cabinet.
Spanish media pointed out that Erdogan has been in power for a quarter of a century, making him the longest-serving political leader in Turkish history.
Italian news channel Rainews24, in its news titled “Erdogan day in Turkey”, reported that many heads of state and government, especially Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, attended Erdogan’s inauguration ceremony.
Dutch public broadcaster NOS reported that Erdogan will become Turkey’s longest-serving president, and that representatives of 78 countries attended the inauguration ceremony.
Greek state television ERT emphasized that in addition to the participation of presidents and prime ministers from foreign countries, the Fener Greek Patriarch Bartholomew, a high-ranking Orthodox cleric living in Istanbul, was also present at the swearing-in ceremony.
Saudi Arabia’s Al-Arabiya TV also reported that Erdogan will host a dinner in honor of guests from 78 different countries and will announce his cabinet after the meal.

Turkey went to the polls for the presidential runoff on 28 May, after no candidate received more than 50% of the votes needed for a decisive victory in the first round on 14 May.
According to the official results, Erdoğan came first with 52.18 percent of the votes, while opposition candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu came in first with 47.82 percent of the votes.
Erdogan’s party, as an ally, won a majority of seats in parliament.
