Inflation continues to record low levels, compared to last year’s records.
From October when the index reached a record level of 8.3%, consumer prices have halved, but during May compared to April, the index has undergone a slight increase.
This is almost all caused by the increase in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, at the level of 3.58%, while the prices of furniture and household appliances also experienced an increase of almost 0.5%. Meanwhile, the transport group, which last year led the increase in inflation due to oil prices, has already recorded negative values with 0.82%. The government also decided to dissolve the transparency board.
As the statistics of production prices for food and beverage processing also showed, costs continue to remain high, despite the fact that import prices have fallen. Meanwhile, Instat figures show that vegetables have increased by 20%, dairy by 14.3%, fruits and meat by 12% respectively. Even the prices of oils and fats have recorded negative values in the month of May, while the increase in the price of cereals has also slowed down.
The Bank of Albania predicts the reduction of inflation to the level of 3% during the middle of next year, but predicts the increase of the base rate again, giving signals that price pressure is already coming from the domestic market.
