President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Kenyan President William Ruto today on the sidelines of the COMESA summit in Lusaka, Zambia.
Presidency spokesman Adviser Ahmed Fahmy said President El-Sisi noted that Kenya plays a vital role in improving security and stability on the continent, emphasizing the solid historical relations that the two peoples and countries and on Egypt’s willingness to strengthen these relations at all levels, especially in terms of trade and Egyptian investment in vital sectors in Kenya in support of its development efforts.
President Ruto confirmed the deep and close relations between the two countries and said his country looks forward to promoting cooperation with Egypt in all areas, given Egypt’s central role in the region. In this regard, he referred to the broad prospects of developing cooperation between the two countries in many areas, especially the economic one, and praised the activities of Egyptian companies in Kenya and their contribution to development efforts.
The two presidents discussed ways to advance bilateral relations and discussed the latest developments in Africa. The two sides welcomed the alignment of positions between the two countries on different political files, in addition to the consensus on the importance of promoting integration between African countries, especially in economic, trade and infrastructure development.
The talks also covered the developments of the Renaissance Dam issue, in addition to ways to improve cooperation between the Nile Basin countries. There was agreement to support the development trajectory of the Nile Basin countries and efforts to strengthen their relations in all areas of development, in a manner that promotes their common interests and does not harm any party.
